Lighthouses: Glassworks by Alice Jarry and shroud for an ancient sea by Sarah Nance
TUESDAY, FEB 7, 5-7PM (EV 10.730)

Produced following residences in glass recycling plants near Montreal and in Belgium, Lighthouses (2015-Present) by Alice Jarry, is a site-specific kinetic installation that explores the potential of glass in the generation of unstable sound and light signals. In this project, the site-specific process fosters productive alliances with forces and materialities, allowing the emergence of ephemeral forms. This presentation will discuss a process-based approach with glass while looking at key moments in the development of the installation.

Sarah Nance will address her current body of research on the moon’s tidal pull and its influence on earthly geology. Her ongoing series of beaded nets, shown draped over boulders local to the exhibition sites, relate human and geologic time. Nance will also discuss the recently funded project, shroud for an ancient sea, in which she will utilize the similarities between lace knitting and binary code to create an encoded textile based on the geology of Newfoundland’s East Coast Trail.
